Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring to-go containers and take food home?
No, this is strictly prohibited and will be enforced. To ensure all guests have enough food at the festival, we require you to consume all food on-site. To-go containers, large food storage containers, coolers, and catering trays are not permitted.

Is this a barbecue competition/cookoff?
No. The goal of the festival is to celebrate and recognize Houston barbecue and the people who make it. There will not be any kind of competition or rankings. All guests get to sample the barbecue.

What time should we get there?
VIP Admission is at 12pm and General Admission at 1pm on Sunday April 12th. We suggest you get there about 30-60 minutes before your gate time.

How did you pick the participating BBQ joints?
Based on the organizers’ experience visiting 100+ barbecue joints in and around Houston, we believe that these invited BBQ joints represent the quality, diversity, and history that best tells the story of Houston barbecue.
What is a “sample portion?”
All of the participating BBQ joints will provide an approximately 2 ounce serving of their barbecue to each guest that comes to their booth. As an example, that’s about a slice or half-slice of brisket and one rib.
Can I go back more than once to any or all participating BBQ joints?
Yes.
Will you have enough food for everyone? Will you run out?
We work closely with each barbecue joint to ensure there is plenty of food overall. Taken together, the total amount of barbecue brought by all vendors should be sufficient for all guests.
That said, some very popular barbecue joints may run out earlier than others.

Is re-entry allowed if I leave the venue?
Yes, as long as you have a badge or wristband.
Can I bring my children?
Yes. Children six (6) and under are admitted free.
Children seven (7) and older must have a ticket.
This policy helps ensure there is enough food for all guests.
